NComputing Multi-User Technology
NComputing multi-user technology greatly expands computing capabilities by allowing up to 30 users to simultaneously access a single PC. You can lower your costs (significantly), and the products are extremely easy to use, simple to set up and maintain, and is very eco-friendly. The result? Significantly lower computing costs, on-going management and power usage that are many times better than you get with traditional networked PCs.
Since most users only use a small percentage of todays powerful PCs capabilities, NComputing leverages this power with up to 30 users using our proven software and very small, very reliable access terminals. Best of all, IT staff and end users do not need special training because this rich PC experience is easy to manage and is compatible with standard PC applications. By multiplying the power of your PCs and slashing the costs of maintenance, you can cut your desktop computing costs by up to 70%. And the single-digit wattage draw is friendly to the environment.
Thousands of schools, governments and enterprises have deployed almost half a million NComputing access terminals to make optimal use of their PCs. NComputing is the computing solution that crosses the digital divide by breaking the affordability and complexity barrier that has limited computing from being deployed everywhere, to everyone.
How It Works
The NComputing multi-user environment is based on our very mature terminal server software, which loads onto standard PCs and allows them to be
used by multiple users – each running their own applications. Our access terminals connect to user sessions on the host PC. Unlike traditional thin-client/fat-server solutions, our robust multi-user environment uses standard PCs as servers, is less expensive per user, draws less power and requires much less IT support.
Today's mainstream PCs feature fast 2 GHz+ dual core processors with high performance memory. Most applications use only a few percent of this processing power.
That's the otherwise-wasted power that we leverage to all of the users in the NComputing multi–user environment.
The terminal server software, a highly efficient communications protocol, and our access terminals combine to provide a robust computing experience that supports productivity, multimedia and a rich internet experience.
For classrooms, libraries and web centers, you can install a few PCs and then add multiple access terminals for as little as $70 each.
The users will think they each have their own PC–for studying, library research, email or web access.
Each NComputing access terminal, along with a mouse, keyboard and monitor, provides another user with a rich Windows or Linux experience on the PC host. The host provides the computing resources, the operating system, applications and access to an internet or intranet connection. NComputing access terminals connected to the host PC. With the NComputing multi-user environment, multiple users can access their accounts simultaneously from a single PC.
Computing Environment
NComputing's access terminals do not require large and expensive servers. Standard desktop PCs work wonderfully, although inexpensive servers can also be used. All of these systems have more than enough performance to support multiple users. (See our 30-User and 7-User Environments for more details.)
Unlike other terminal server products, our software installs on the host PC in minutes. Even when running a server OS like Windows Server 2003, you don't need special training.
Expanding Access
Today there are about 850,000,000 PC users in the world. But there are another 1,000,000,000 who would use PCs if they could afford them. PC sales have stalled because they can't be made any less expensively. We are expanding access to computing to the next billion users. By adding access terminals to PCs, the ability to reach more users for less money and with fewer support headaches is finally a reality.
The Multi-User Advantage
There are many advantages to our multi-user environment. The four largest are:
- Lower computing cost per user. Our X-series access stations are as low as $70 per seat. You can cut your computing costs by up to 70%.
- With fewer PCs to maintain, support headaches and IT costs are greatly reduced.
- Our access terminals use less than 5 watts of power. This is generally only 5% of the power of a typical PC.
- All of the NComputing software and hardware products are designed to be easy to set up, secure and maintain by anyone with basic PC skills.
